The Training Units concentrate on the following areas: Defensive Tactics, EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operation), Field Training Evaluation Program, Firearms Training Unit, and First Aid/CPR Unit.

The Patrol Division handles Case Management, Crime Prevention, Fleet, Forest Service, Livestock/Animal Control, the Marine Unit, Vehicle Ordinance, and the Traffic Unit. The Detectives are composed of the following: CID, Computer Forensics, CRAFT, DVERT,

Major Crimes Unit, Property Crimes Unit, and Special Investigations Unit, and the Child Abuse Team.

Formed in 1990, the Air Unit is composed of three pilots who are on-call 24 hours a day.

Several years ago through the drug profit forfeiture process the Sheriff’s Office obtained a fixed gear Cessna 182 aircraft. The aircraft is used to assist in many types of law enforcement operations including Search & Rescue, Traffic Patrol, Vehicle Pursuits, Marijuana Eradication, SWAT operations and other situations where an aerial view is critical.

The Patrol Division along with its Deputies responds to most crime victims personally or by telephone, generate written reports and conduct initial investigations into major crimes and often complete investigations of less serious crimes. Social problems of a non-criminal nature are handled by the Patrol. These include placement of runaway juveniles and assistance to stranded motorists. Deputies are in many ways a 24 hour per day intake point for local government services. They also provide both routine and emergency back-up for city police officers and special units such as canine, SWAT, CRAFT, etc. to assist them with specialized problems.
